Child Welfare & Attendance
The Child Welfare and Attendance (CWA) department is dedicated to supporting student well-being and ensuring that all students have access to a safe, supportive, and consistent learning environment. This office plays a critical role in addressing issues related to student attendance, behavior, and overall welfare, working to remove barriers that might prevent students from attending school regularly or succeeding academically. Key responsibilities of the CWA staff include:
Tracking student attendance patterns, identifying chronic absenteeism, and implementing interventions to improve attendance rates, including communication with parents and guardians to address attendance issues.
Identifying students at risk of truancy and working closely with families, counselors, and community resources to create individualized plans to address underlying causes of absenteeism and encourage consistent school attendance.
Providing support services to students and families facing personal, social, or emotional challenges that may impact attendance or academic performance, connecting them with counseling services, social services, and community-based organizations.
Responding to incidents related to student safety, including bullying, neglect, abuse, and other welfare concerns, and ensuring that appropriate actions are taken in accordance with district policies and legal requirements.
Partnering with local agencies, social workers, law enforcement, and community organizations to address issues such as homelessness, family instability, and mental health concerns that may affect students' ability to attend school or succeed academically.
Referring students and families to external support services and following up to ensure that students receive the necessary resources and assistance to remain in school and thrive academically.
