About the Department
The Child Nutrition Center Department is responsible for providing nutritious, safe, and cost-effective meals to students, staff, and sometimes the community. This department ensures that students receive balanced meals that meet dietary guidelines and support overall health and wellness. Key responsibilities of the Child Nutrition Center Department include:
Designing age-appropriate, balanced menus that comply with federal and state nutrition standards, while offering a variety of meal options.
Preparing and serving meals in a safe and sanitary manner, ensuring that all food meets health and safety regulations.
Promoting healthy eating habits by incorporating nutrition education into the school environment.
Implementing strict food safety protocols, including proper storage, handling, and sanitation procedures, to prevent foodborne illnesses and ensure a clean environment.
Ensuring that the food service program adheres to all local, state, and federal regulations, including those set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).
Managing student meal accounts, including the processing of free and reduced-price meal applications, meal payments, and maintaining accurate financial records for meal transactions.
Implementing practices to reduce food waste, promote sustainability, and utilize local and seasonal ingredients when possible.
Engaging with students, parents, and staff to gather feedback, and improve the overall dining experience.
