About the Department
The Human Resources (HR) Department plays a vital role in managing the recruitment, development, and support of the school’s staff, ensuring that the educational environment is staffed with qualified and effective personnel. HR professionals in schools are responsible for hiring teachers, administrators, support staff, and other personnel. They handle the onboarding process for new hires and assist in performance evaluations and disciplinary actions. Additionally, the HR department addresses employee concerns, resolves conflicts, and ensures a positive and inclusive work environment. They also manage employee records, assist with contract negotiations, and ensure adherence to labor laws and collective bargaining agreements. Key responsibilities of the Human Resources Department include:
Recruitment and Staffing: Advertise and promote open positions (teachers, administrators, support staff), Review job applications and resumes; Conduct interviews and coordinate hiring processes.
Employee Records and Documentation: Maintain accurate and confidential employee records; Track employee credentials, licensure, and required certifications; Ensure compliance with background checks, fingerprinting, and other hiring prerequisites.
Employee Relations: Address and resolve employee concerns, conflicts, and grievances; Foster a positive work environment and ensure effective communication; Ensure compliance with labor laws and school policies.
Performance Management: Coordinate the performance evaluation process for teachers, administrators, and support staff.
Compliance and Policy Management: Ensure school district compliance with state and federal labor laws, including those related to discrimination, wages, and workplace safety; Administer and update employee handbooks and school policies.
Labor Relations: Support union negotiations and compliance with collective bargaining agreements; Act as a liaison between the administration and union representatives; Ensure that staff members' rights are respected.
Health, Safety, and Well-Being: Promote and oversee employee wellness programs; Ensure compliance with workplace safety standards and regulations; Address any issues related to employee health and safety.
