English Learner Services
English Learner (EL) Services are designed to support students whose first language is not English, helping them develop proficiency in English while also ensuring their academic success across all subject areas. The goal of EL services is to create an inclusive, language-rich environment where students can thrive academically and socially, while also maintaining their cultural identity. Key components of EL services include:
Offering specialized instruction focused on developing students’ speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in English, with a focus on building academic vocabulary and language comprehension.
Administering assessments to evaluate students' English language proficiency and determine the appropriate level of support they need, while regularly monitoring progress to inform instructional decisions.
Providing bilingual instruction or support services to help students access grade-level content in both their native language and English, particularly for students at early stages of language development.
Implementing strategies that make academic content more accessible to EL students, such as visual aids, scaffolding, and modified language, while still holding students to the same academic standards as their peers.
Engaging with families through communication in their preferred language, providing resources and support to help parents understand the school system, and creating partnerships that support student success.
Offering additional services for students who may need extra assistance, such as small group instruction, tutoring, and intervention programs, to ensure they achieve language proficiency and academic success.
